Albert Lea Seed’s Piper Sudangrass

If you’re interested in summer cover crops, this is a trial for you! This trial is focused on reviewing germination vigor, weed competition (canopy closure), biomass accumulation, height, and earliness of heading (flowering) in 5 different warm season grasses from Albert Lea Seed.

Participants will receive 3/5 of the varieties in late April, and are asked to plant between June 1st and June 15th. Enough seed will be supplied for 50 square feet per variety, and participants must plant at the recommended seeding rate – so please only sign up if you have space for three 5ft. x 10ft. (or other 50sq. ft.) plots. Primary focus is on USDA Hardiness Zones 3-6, but other participants may be considered.
